Caleb’s Dragonfly Dreams is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization that provides positive events and activities to abandoned, abused and neglected children that reside in shelters and group homes.
Changing the lives of children who are currently living in three residential facilities in Horry & Georgetown Counties of South Carolina. We visited our first group home (Horry County Shelter Home) in 2008 and our goal is to branch out into other counties in South Carolina and one day touch every group home in the United States.
Caleb’s Dragonfly Dreams provides lots of activities to these wonderful children, too many to list but some examples are tie dye shirts, trips to the water park in the summer, jewelry making, pizza & movie night, Birthday presents, and when we have the budget an awesome winter trip to go snow tubing in North Carolina and hiking to water falls.
These activities are just a mere stepping stone to get to know the children and form a bond that last long after they are displaced from the group home.
The residential facilities (we aren’t allowed to say orphanages anymore) have limited funding by the government. The funding barely covers clothing, food, and staffing. So extra activities are out of the question. We try to bridge the gap and make certain that these children have the opportunity to just be a normal kid.
We understand that these activities cannot take away the hurt these children have endured, but we feel that exposure to new experiences can positively affect a child’s self- esteem and development. By just going to a football game and cheering them on from the sidelines or just giving a little girl a balloon for her birthday you can help shape a life.
I have been asked many times to measure the success of our program, how can you measure a child’s a smile?
